Program Content & Structure

Academy Fellows become part of a network of trail blazers, supporting and challenging each other to create and implement bold, impactful, and scalable improvements to urban school systems. Fellows take an active role in defining new, world-class approaches and innovative solutions to public education’s most enduring challenges.

Program Content

During each session, Fellows engage in debate and dialogue with experts and explore key levers that have the potential to produce dramatically improved results for teachers and students.

Sessions focus on:

• Strategies and reform initiatives that have the highest potential to drive student achievement gains.

• Essential implementation considerations such as change management, communications, stakeholder relations and community engagement.

• Systems-level management skills designed to build capacity in large organizations.

• Applied learning projects to simulate critical superintendent decisions.

• Insights from experts in education and from executives leading innovation and change in other fields.

• Customized learning support to address individual leadership skills and development goals.

Outside of session, Fellows engage in team projects, field consultancies, and shadow visits, and work with mentors and executive coaches.

The program also strengthens core knowledge of K-12 education through access to extensive resources including research, videos, webinars, and robust toolkits.

Program Structure

Fellows attend five extended weekend sessions over the course of an 18-month program. The Broad Center covers tuition and travel expenses. A typical session runs from Thursday morning until Sunday at noon.
