Selection Process

Following a rigorous interview process, leaders from within and outside K-12 education are selected for each cohort.

    Resume Submission

    Every submission is reviewed by the Academy team. Selected individuals are contacted to discuss program details and the candidate’s career goals.

    The Academy encourages all prospective candidates to learn more about the program, the types of candidates sought and program alumni prior to submitting a resume.

    Telephone Interview

    Selected individuals are invited to participate in a telephone interview with a representative of the Academy.

    Those advanced to the next step will be notified within two weeks of the telephone interview.

    Video Interview

    Selected individuals are invited to participate in a video interview, often with an Academy alumnus or former/current school-system leader.

    In advance of this interview, candidates will be asked to respond in writing to several questions.

    In-Person Interview

    Selected individuals are invited to participate in a day of in-person interviews with the Academy team and alumni. This also is a chance to meet other candidates.

    The Academy covers expenses for travel and accommodations for these interviews. Typically, candidates are notified of next steps in two weeks. Those advanced are considered finalists.

    Interviews will take place on August 14, September 12, October 9, November 14 and December 5, 2015.

    References and Additional Interviews

    The Academy team conducts professional references and background checks for all finalists.

    Additional interviews with the Academy team and/or network members may be scheduled for each candidate, as well.

    The first session of the next Academy cohort is slated to convene in Los Angeles in May 2016.*
