“All children should have access to a high quality education regardless of their socioeconomic status or class. Today, this is not the case. Children in underserved communities are being left behind. Growing up in inner city Chicago, I experienced the achievement gap and its impact first hand. I was lucky. With the support of my parents, teachers who worked with me after hours, and weekend enrichment classes, I received a strong K-12 foundation and reached my goal of matriculating through a rigorous collegiate program. Many of my peers did not have this same opportunity. It is my dream that all children in underserved communities have access to a strong education so that they too can discover, dream, achieve, and become positive contributors in their communities and in the world.”
