In our vision for the future, urban public education systems are high-performing organizations that deliver excellent results for all of their students.

The work we do in pursuit of our mission—to raise student achievement by recruiting, training and supporting leadership talent from across America to transform urban school systems—is centered on the following beliefs.

Public education is the foundation of a just and thriving society.

Education provides students with access to opportunities and empowers them to reach their full potential. Education promotes innovation, global competitiveness and a healthy and productive society that is better able to overcome challenges and shape its future.

All students have the right to a high-quality public education.

Education is a right, not a privilege. We must act with urgency to ensure that every student has equal access to world-class educational opportunities.

All students have the ability to achieve academic success.

All students—regardless of race, ethnicity, or socio-economic status—can graduate well prepared for life after high school. Across America, students from all backgrounds and personal circumstances are overcoming gaps in achievement and opportunity and proving they can achieve at high academic levels.

Leadership is critical to building and sustaining high-performing systems that provide a world-class education for all of their students.

Put simply, leadership matters. In public education, exceptional leaders inspire colleagues and communities, creating the kinds of environments that allow good teachers to do great work so all students can learn and thrive. Effective leaders keep student needs at the center of their decision-making and have the courage and determination to embrace actions that improve outcomes for all students.
