The Broad Residency 2018-2020

A quote by Arnold Bennet gives insight into my reason for transitioning from higher education to K-12 education: “We may be aware of a truth, yet until we have felt its force, it is not ours. To the cognition of the brain must be added the experience of the soul.” Until I became a parent navigating the system to find the best school for my child, I did not pay as much attention to the K-12 education space. My goal in the work I do is to make sure it’s understood by many and accessible to as many people as possible.

Gwendolyn Williams is a highly specialized advisor for the office of academics at Shelby County Schools in Memphis. Prior to joining the school district in 2016, Gwendolyn was an Education Pioneers Analyst Fellow with Seeding Success in Memphis where she supported multiple Seeding Success partners in their efforts to improve third grade reading outcomes. Before transitioning to a career in K-12 education, Gwendolyn was the director of student life at Meharry Medical College in Nashville where she was responsible for the oversight of student leadership, student government and other student events. Gwendolyn earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus in computer information systems and finance from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and a master’s degree in education from Vanderbilt University.
