The Broad Residency 2018-2020

All students deserve the opportunities, knowledge and resources necessary to own their futures. My experiences in higher education and K-12 convince me that large-scale change is possible when effective leaders identify and implement policies that serve students and schools equally well. Despite the challenges we face, I believe our public education system is still the greatest lever we have to create equity for all students.

Jerre Maynor, Jr. is the director of student readiness and pathways at the Tennessee Department of Education. A native Tennessean, Jerre joined the department in 2015 as the director of student readiness to focus on improving statewide performance on the ACT and increasing the number of students who seamlessly enroll in postsecondary education. Currently, Jerre also leads Tennessee Pathways, a statewide framework to ensure structural alignment and partnerships between K-12, higher education, and industry so that all students have clear, guided pathways to postsecondary success. Prior to his current role, Jerre was the founding director of college counseling at KIPP Academy Lynn Collegiate in Massachusetts. After initially pursuing a career in professional golf, Jerre began his career in education as an admissions counselor at the University of the South where he earned a bachelor’s degree in French studies. He also has a master’s degree in higher education administration from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
