The Broad Fellowship for Education Leaders

As founder and founding principal of the Bronx Academy of Letters High School, Joan Sullivan was recognized for her leadership and commitment to its students. Located in the poorest congressional district, the school has nonetheless been ranked among the best in the U.S. by US News & World Report. After adding a middle school to feed into Bronx Academy of Letters High School, Joan turned her attention to education policy, serving as deputy mayor of education for the city of Los Angeles. Today she leads the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, a nonprofit organization that supports struggling neighborhood schools as they transform into institutions of equity and excellence.
