The Broad Residency 2018-2020

Knowing how much my parents sacrificed in immigrating to the U.S. makes me incredibly proud to be an Asian-American daughter. But even with the sacrifices they made to ensure I could attend excellent schools, my education failed teach me to have a voice and instead caused me to assimilate into the dominant culture. In addition to strong literacy and numeracy skills, every child deserves an education that will grow their curiosity, confidence and critical thinking so that they can define their own identities.

Linda Sun is an executive director at Miami-Dade County Public Schools in the Office of Academics and Transformation. Prior to The Broad Residency, Linda was a secondary math teacher. As a Teach for America corps member, she taught in Nashville’s highest need high school and also at the Lycée Français de Shanghai, a multilingual pre-K through 12th grade school serving an international community. Linda started her career in finance at General Electric, participating in two of the company’s management leadership programs. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Northeastern University and a master’s degree from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
