The Broad Residency 2018-2020

I am frustrated and driven by the lack of equity in our public schools. All children, no matter their family’s economic, ethnic or racial background, deserve equal access to a quality education that sets them up for success after school. The health of their communities and our country depend on it.

Mary Beth Whyel is executive director of strategic projects at the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. Prior to joining The Broad Residency, she was vice president for operations and strategic initiatives at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a bipartisan, nonprofit policy research organization where she previously served as executive officer to the President and CEO and assistant director for the Southeast Asia Program. She also taught English at Thailand’s Khon Kaen University during a Princeton in Asia fellowship. Mary Beth earned her bachelor’s degree in international relations and her master’s degree in comparative regional studies in Asia from American University.
