The Broad Residency 2019-2021

I have seen firsthand the impact that a quality school and the expectations it sets can have on a student's life. I am committed to supporting a future when all children can access a high-quality education that empowers them and embraces their identities, regardless of their socioeconomic circumstances.

Michelle Yan is the director of data and strategy for My School DC, the common application and lottery for over 200 public schools and public charter schools in the District of Columbia. She is responsible for executing the annual lottery, analyzing data trends and policy implications, and evaluating strategic programmatic initiatives. Prior to joining The Broad Residency, Michelle was a consultant with Bain & Company, where she worked with clients across the private and social sectors to develop strategic growth plans and improve organizational effectiveness. She started her career as a middle school math teacher in St. Louis through Teach For America. Michelle graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and from the University of Missouri – St. Louis with a master’s degree in secondary education.
