The Broad Academy 2004
I have had the pleasure of spending the majority of my career in urban communities and have developed an understanding that students in urban districts face unique challenges that I feel is my duty to address. I have focused my work on increasing student learning and achievement.
Peter Gorman’s career began as a second-grade teacher in Orlando. He ascended to roles as a principal and district-level administrator in Florida school districts before being named superintendent of Tustin Unified School District. As superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, one of the 20-largest school districts in the nation, he introduced a new staffing model to attract Charlotte’s top principals to roles in the district’s lowest performing schools. Pete also attracted top talent to his cabinet — more than a dozen members of his leadership team have become superintendents themselves.
