The Broad Residency 2018-2020

I became aware of the opportunity gap in education late in life, despite living and working in a major city. It wasn’t until I had my own child and our neighbors became I friends that I realized how great the divide can be. Since that time, it has been my goal to be an advocate for equity and accessibility in education so that all our children are equipped with the skills they need to build a beautiful life.

Rebekka Shepherd is director of special projects at Mastery Charter Schools, helping to implement strategic priorities across the network’s 26 schools in Philadelphia and Camden, New Jersey. Before joining The Broad Residency, she served as the assistant director of program innovation and development for the LeBow College of Business at Drexel University. She was responsible for implementation and facilitation of project based experiential learning, in courses and throughout the wider curriculum. Further, she facilitated the continuous improvement of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum and managed external funding initiatives for the college. Prior to Drexel University, she worked in development and event planning for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She has a master’s degree in higher education from Drexel University and a bachelor’s degree in communications from Messiah College.
