The Broad Residency 2018-2020

I have dedicated my career to education management due to the disparities I faced as a Black student growing up in a challenging urban school district. I want to be a vessel for the changes we need to see for students of color to realize their potential within our public-school systems.

Theodore Smith is director of recruitment at DC Prep, overseeing and evaluating the organization’s talent strategies and function. Before joining The Broad Residency, Theodore was the director of recruitment at Explore Schools and associate director of recruitment at Uncommon Schools. Additionally, Theodore served in the New York Army National Guard. Theodore began his career as a high school mathematics teacher in Washington, D.C., through Teach for America. Theodore earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and African-American studies from the University of Virginia.
